What is One Hip World?
One Hip World is a one day event set for June 30, 2012 meant to raise awareness and research funds for the International Hip Dysplasia Institute (IHDI) and most importantly EDUCATE about Hip Dysplasia.
According to the IHDI, approximately 1 out of every 20 full term babies has some hip instability and 2-3 out of every 1000 babies will require treatment. Despite how common DDH is, the awareness of Hip Dysplasia is very poor outside of the medical community. I'm a Registered Nurse with 8+ years in the NICU and nursery, and I had only heard of it in dogs before my own daughter was diagnosed.
So many things we do every day can cause or worsen hip dysplasia in newborns. The way we swaddle, the way they're carried... please. Look around the blog pages and watch the videos I posted. Help all babies have healthy hips for life!!
